Professional Development Courses: Introduction to Mediation
In this three-hour course, the instructor will define mediation, offer analysis and discussion of its key components and applications, and answer the questions: What is mediation? How does it work? What are its advantages and disadvantages? Where and how can one find and choose a good mediator? Individuals who have heard the term, have seen it in a real estate contract along with arbitration, or have been involved in a divorce or child custody mediation, may find themselves wanting to learn more about this fast growing means of resolving disputes in the courts, in the business arena and in other private and public sectors. This is the “public education” module for curiosity seekers as well as those who are deciding whether they want to enter the field.
Fee: $35 (Material Fee: $3 at class)
Note: Individual classes in the mediation program may be taken for personal or professional development* only. However, to achieve the 40-hour Mediator Certificate of Completion, all five classes in the series must be completed. There are no prerequisites, but it is recommended that classes be taken in sequence, if possible. Any class may be cancelled for under-enrollment (fewer than 10); therefore, it is recommended that certificate seekers register at least two weeks prior to the first class meeting. Classes will be closed (capped) at 20 enrollees. Questions or comments may be directed to the instructor, Linda Hughes, at lahughes48@aol.com or at www.lahughes.com
