GED: About the Program
AVC & GED
The GED program at Antelope Valley College prepares students to take the series of five GED tests. AVC students who complete all the recommended GED classes go on to pass the GED test and receive a high school equivalency.
Why GED?
There are approximately 900,000 California residents between the ages of 18 and 24 who do not have high school diplomas. The General Educational Development (GED) program is an excellent way to address this issue. Passing the GED test is nationally recognized as an equivalent to a high school diploma. In recent years more than one million adults world-wide have taken one or more of the five GED tests.
About GED Testing
The GED tests consist of content area
tests in reading, writing, mathematics, science
and social studies. These rigorous tests also measure communication, information-processing, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Who can enroll in GED?
The GED program is open to any California resident over the age of 18 years who has not earned a high school diploma.
