Mentor Teacher Program: Rosa Mayorga

Rosa Mayorga

My name is Rosa Mayorga and I am from Jalisco Mexico I came to this country at the beginning of January of 1990. I got married at the end of the same year. I have lived in Castaic, Sylmar, Sun Valley and now in Palmdale, CA. I have 3 sons their names are Miguel Jr., Ivan, and Adonis. When my two older sons started school I would frequently participate as a volunteer. While they were studying I took advantage of the programs the district was offering for parents, I got my GED then I continued taking ESL classes and some ECE (Early Childhood Education) classes at Antelope Valley College just to become a better parent. While I was studying I got a job with a wonderful person as a boss at The Children’s Center her name is Catherine Overdorf, they had different programs and I was working as lead preschool teacher in one of them in Lake L.A. I worked there for 5 years; while I was working there I got my license as a Realtor, and also I became mentor at the end of my fifth year working in Lake L.A. Now I have been working at the Lancaster School District for three years and it has been an exciting experience with a boss that cares about all of us. Being a mentor is a wonderful experience too, because we can help many students who want to become teachers or even we guide them on how to apply and get their teaching permits.
