Biological
Sciences
Biology is the study of life. Biological
Sciences cover all aspects of the study of life and emphasize
both the universality of cellular function and the specific
diversity present at the organismal level. Special
emphasis is placed on the relationship between structure
and function, progressing through molecular, cellular, organismal
and ecological levels of complexity.
Branches of biology
such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology, zoology and ecology
are concerned with the application of biological principals
to human endeavours such as improving health and the environment.Courses
offered include human anatomy and human physiology - essential
for students in allied health fields - biology, molecular
biology, botany, microbiology and biotechnology. There are
specialized courses in birds of Southern California and
tropical biology, which includes field work in South America.
