Sciences
Physical sciences incorporates
such diverse subjects as astronomy, chemistry, geography,
geology, physical science and physics. Many of the courses
combine lecture with hands-on lab activities ranging from
star gazing to studying the properties of elements using a
gas chromatograph. The curriculum has been updated to incorporate
instructional technology. Among the newest offerings in the
department is geographic information systems (GIS),
which is described as one of the hottest new job fields of
the 21st century. Students learn to use technology and software
in decision making with applications in a variety of fields
including criminology, firefighting, resource management and
many others. An associate in science degree in physical sciences
is available.
