The Antelope Valley College Art Gallery is proud to present AVC photography Professor Lee Bergthold’s most recent body of works in Visionetics: The Mystique of 35 mm Film.  Bergthold offers a mysterious and mythical photographic view in his use of a manual 35 mm camera and film.  Using a manual Nikon camera, he takes various scenes of his students during classroom photo demonstrations and then re-exposes the negatives with distant locations using the same camera and rolls of film.  He duplicates and triplicates the imagery into a hodgepodge mixture of mysterious and sometimes exotic photography.  Although echoing the luminescent colors and surreal environment of digitally manipulated images, no retouching in the computer is involved.  Unlike digital methods, Bergthold never sees the actual results until the film is processed.  By relinquishing control, Bergthold’s process engenders experimental compositions and dreamlike narratives.

Bergthold is the author of There Must Have Been an Angel with a second book on his survival exploits in the backcountry, To Walk Away From Battle Mountain, pending publication.  (Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Kindle, Amazon-Europe, CreateSpace).
