A Message from the College President:
Keep the gold shovels handy!
Every time we launch a new building project on campus, we have a groundbreaking ceremony using gold-painted shovels.
We had such a groundbreaking recently for our West Campus Expansion, which will create new physical education facilities, expand parking, provide access for those with disabilities, and create infrastructure to support thousands more students at Antelope Valley College’s Lancaster campus.
That project is just the first of many we expect to see the next several years.
In a few months, we expect to break ground on two other projects:
• A theatre next to Avenue K.
• A new agriculture complex for students and a
maintenance/warehouse facility on the north side of campus.
The agriculture and maintenance project will enable us to relocate those functions to make room for construction in 2008-09 of a health and science building, which will provide much-needed lab space for our science and health sciences programs. In addition, the health and science building will create lecture rooms and offices.
Meanwhile, we continue to expand AVC’s programs at our Palmdale Boulevard location as we move ahead with plans to establish a second permanent campus site in the Palmdale area.
District officials are currently exploring options for a permanent Palmdale site. While we remain hopeful that development issues can be resolved with a proposed college site near Barrel Springs Road and
37th Street East, we are looking at other sites in the area.
