Realizing the critical need for training new sheriff’s deputies as well as the need to train them in the Antelope Valley, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department and Antelope Valley College joined forces to open the Sheriff's Training Academy in October 2006. This fast-track project included site work and infrastructure for two modular buildings that provide classroom space for up to 90 cadets, staff office space, locker-shower facilities, drill area and obstacle course. The first class of deputies trained at this facility graduated in spring 2007.
