Foundation Scholarships

The AVC Foundation has over 200 scholarships available to students each year. When applying for a Foundation scholarship, students simply fill out one application, and  their application is screened for all scholarships for which they are eligible.

Scholarship Deadline: Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 4:30 p.m.

Unless otherwise stipulated by the scholarship, the student must enroll for courses in the academic year following the scholarship award or the award will be forfeited.

WHO CAN APPLY?

  • High School Student attending AVC in 2014-2015
  • Continuing AVC students (must have completed six units by end of Fall 2013 semester)
  • Transferring AVC students (transferring to a four-year university in Fall 2014)
  • Minimum G.P.A. required: 2.0

HOW DO I APPLY?

Step 1: Complete an Antelope Valley College Foundation Application for scholarships listed in this handbook. Applications are available only on the website at www.avc.edu/foundation/scholarships.html.

Step 2: Complete and attach your typed personal statement to the application stating your educational goals and objectives and how this scholarship will assist you in meeting your goals.

Step 3: Obtain two letters of recommendation and/or reference forms from people not related to you; one of these letters must be from an instructor, preferably, in your major.  If you are a student worker, in order to be eligible for the Job Placement Scholarship, one of your references must be from your supervisor.

  • Please type or print CLEARLY in black ink.
  • Mark any section that does not apply to you with “N/A.”
  • Incomplete application packets will be disqualified.
  • Please sign and date your application.

Step 4: SUBMIT your application packet (application, personal statement, and two letters of recommendation and/or reference forms) to the AVC Financial Aid office no later than the published deadline of Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 4:30 p.m., NO EXCEPTIONS will be made, except if you are unable to obtain the references since it is intersession, the instructor may e-mail it to srogers2@avc.edu.

High School Student must attach high school transcript to application packet.

HOW DO I KNOW I HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO RECEIVE A SCHOLARSHIP?

All awarded students will receive a phone call with instructions from the AVC Foundation office in April.

HOW DO I RECEIVE MY SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS?

Step 1: All awarded students must submit their Scholarship Acceptance Form and a thank you letter or card to the AVC Foundation by the due date.

Step 2: Scholarship recipients are required to attend the annual Scholarship Convocation in May, during which the donors will confer their scholarship certificates.  If unable to attend, the recipient must send someone to accept on his/her behalf or the scholarship will be forfeited.

Step 3: Scholarship recipients will receive their scholarship funds according to their 2014-2015 Fall/Spring enrollment status. If you are a……

High School Student starting at AVC in 2014-2015:

  • Your scholarship check will be credited to your fall semester account.  Additional funds remaining after tuition and fees are paid will be disbursed to the student at the beginning of the fall semester.

Continuing AVC student continuing at AVC in 2014-2015:

  • Your scholarship check will be credited to your fall semester account.  Additional funds remaining after tuition and fees are paid will be disbursed to the student at the beginning of the fall semester.

AVC student transferring to a 4-year college in 2014-2015:

  • You must complete the Scholarship Acceptance Form and specify which four-year college or university you will be attending (complete contact information and address required).  After AVC has received enrollment verification, a check will be forwarded to your four-year college’s financial aid office and we will send a confirmation to you by e-mail.  Once you have been notified, follow up with your four-year college’s financial aid office.
