AVC student gets full-ride scholarship to Holy Names University

Antelope Valley College student Harley Haynes Jr. signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Holy Names University in Oakland starting fall 2009. Haynes received a combination academic/athletic scholarship to attend Holy Names University, following completion of his associate degree at AVC. The scholarship is valued at approximately $30,000 annually.

Haynes played basketball for AVC in 2005-06, Coach Chelette’s final season as basketball coach at AVC before becoming dean of the department. After the 2005-06 season, Haynes enlisted in the Navy. He returned to AVC in 2008 to continue his studies.

He intends to join the California Highway Patrol upon completion of his bachelor's degree.
