Michael "Shane" Turner was approved Monday night by college trustees to fill the position formerly held by Bill Benjamin, who resigned last year to take a job in Washington. Turner is due to begin his new duties July 1.

"We selected someone who we think will be the best fit for the campus," said President Dr. Jackie L. Fisher Sr., who noted Turner's experience working in other states will bring a different perspective. Turner was one of three finalists who came to the campus in March for public forums.

Turner's selection follows a nationwide search.

He has worked in a variety of capacities ranging from human resources assistant to director of human resources. He worked four years at Carroll College in Helena, Montana, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration.

In 1999, he was hired by Arizona Western College, a community college located in Yuma, Arizona. He was human resources director there in 2006, when he accepted a position as professor of entrepreneurship at the school.

Turner has a master's degree in management from Northern Arizona University.

In his new role, Turner will oversee human resources and payroll functions for a campus with more than 800 employees.
