Five new members sought for oversight committee

Antelope Valley College is seeking community members interested in serving on its Citizens’ Oversight Committee, with the responsibility of ensuring that local bond proceeds are spent according to their intended purposes.

There are currently five open seats on the volunteer panel created by resignations. They include:

  • One enrolled student active in a community college group
  • A member of the business community
  • Two at-large members
  • A City of Palmdale representative

The 18-member committee was established after local voters in 2004 approved a $139 million bond issue to fund new labs, classrooms and related construction projects for the college district.

The committee is charged with reviewing performance and financial audits until all bond proceeds are exhausted. Members serve two-year terms, not to exceed two consecutive terms.

College district employees, vendors, contractors, consultants and officials are not eligible for appointment.

Anyone interested in serving on the Citizens’ Oversight Committee should submit an application to the AVC President’s Office by Dec. 18, (661) 722-6300, ext. 6301. Applications are available online at the college Web site: http://www.avc.edu/administration/facilities/citizensoversight/representatives.html.
