Grand opening Friday for AVC horticulture building and other facilities

The public is invited to attend the grand opening of Antelope Valley College’s Environmental Horticulture Science and Facilities Services and Warehouse buildings 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16. The campus is at 3041 W. Ave. K, Lancaster.

Visitors should enter the north side of campus from West Avenue J-8 and park in lots 14 or 15. The ceremony will be held near the east entrance to the Environmental Horticulture Science building, adjacent to TE 7.

A reception and tours will follow the ceremony.

In addition, an open house for the horticulture building will be held 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Oct. 17. The open house will include a giveaway of plants raised through the educational program.

The projects were funded through a local bond, Measure R.

Cost of the horticulture facility, which supports students in the Agriculture/Park and Landscape Management Program, was $8.4 million, including equipment. The Facilities Services and Warehouse cost $13.7 million.
