Faculty members hold benefit for "starving artists"

Members of the Antelope Valley College art faculty will host a benefit 6-9 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24 in the campus Art Gallery to provide scholarships to art students. The gallery is located on the west side of campus, 3041 W. Ave. K, Lancaster.

From left, Glen Knowles, Christine Mugnolo and David Babb line up for servings of ice cream from Rich Sim. All four are AVC art faculty members taking part in the first "Starving Artist's Benefit" at AVC's art gallery Sept. 24.

The inaugural "Starving Artist's Benefit" will feature an ice cream social where each dessert is sold in a unique ceramic bowl hand-crafted by Professor Rich Sim. In addition, there will be a silent auction of works by professional artists.

All funds raised will go toward multiple scholarships to help students meet the cost of materials and tuition in their arts education.

The fundraiser coincides with an exhibition of college faculty members' artwork. The show offers a variety of works in a range of media, from traditional to digital arts.

Entry to gallery shows is free. For more information call (661) 722-6300, ext. 6215.
