Intravenous therapy certification offered LVNs

Licensed vocational nurses (LVN) can obtain intravenous therapy certification through three weekend training sessions offered through Antelope Valley College’s Corporate and Community Services beginning Friday, July 23.

The IV course provides 30 continuing education unit credits. Participants must be LVNs with a valid nursing license. The nursing license must be shown at the time of registration.

Topics include legal aspects, types of venipuncture devices, regulation of the fluid flow, patient observation, psychological preparation, choice and preparation of equipment, venipuncture technique, safety factors and choice of vein.

Each course participant will demonstrate three successful venipunctures. Liability insurance is required.

The course will be taught by Patricia Karnstedt and Matthew Martin at Antelope Valley College’s Lancaster campus, 3041 W. Ave. K.
