Dancers find inspiration in conquest for April 23-24 performances

Dancers will explore the concept of “Conquest” when they appear on the stage for the annual Dance Dimensions concert 8 p.m. April 23-24 at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center, 750 W. Lancaster Blvd., Lancaster.

The Dance Dimensions concert will showcase the work of Antelope Valley College students as well as dancers and choreographers from the community.

Show organizers note that since the beginning of civilization, the threat of plunder from a greater power has faced mankind. Even today, the struggles of life, love and war are ruled by our fascination with riches and concern of enslavement and loss.

Choreographers and dancers will incorporate the many worlds of dance to typify the cross-cultural symbolism of this concept, including contemporary dance, African dance, hip-hop, tutting hip-hop, spiritual dance, jazz dance, tap, ballet, ‘40s and ‘50s social dancing and tango.

Guest choreographer Trevor Lynskey will lend his creativity for two segments of the performance. In addition, members of the Hidden Entropy Movement Project will lend their talents to the show.

Tickets for the popular dance performances are on sale through the Lancaster Performing Arts Center box office, (661) 723-5950.
