Medical transcription course to be offered

Anyone interested in pursuing a career in medical transcription is encouraged to attend a free orientation Sept. 9 for an online medical transcription course to be offered by Antelope Valley College’s Corporate and Community Services Office.

Orientations will be held 1 p.m. at the college’s Palmdale Center, 1529 E. Palmdale Blvd., Room SV3G, and 5:30 p.m. at the Lancaster campus, 3041 W. Ave. K, Room LS2 135.

Medical transcription offers opportunities for employment in spite of the current economy.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the medical transcription will experience 11 percent employment growth between 2008 and 2018.

The 640-hour online medical transcription course – offered in conjunction with Career Step -- will prepare men and women to become certified medical transcriptionists. Seating will be limited. People may register for the orientation by calling (661) 722-6300, ext. 6584.

Those attending either orientation will learn about a free laptop or back-to-school discount offer for those enrolling in the program.

Upon request three days before the event, reasonable accommodation will be provided to facilitate the participation of covered individuals with disabilities. Call (661) 722-6360 (voice/relay).
