Additional guard training offered at AVC

Additional security guard training to meet continuing education requirements of those with a valid security guard card will be offered 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturdays, Sept. 11 and 18 through Antelope Valley College’s Corporate and Community Services, 3041 W. Ave. K, Lancaster.

The 16-hour power to arrest training helps fulfill the requirement of the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, which calls for new guards to complete 16 hours of training within 30 days of being hired. An additional 32 hours of training needs to be completed within the first six months of hire.

The two-day course will cover material pertaining to training, handcuffing, report writing, use of force and job duties. The course also prepares officers for the firearms, baton and/or pepper spray class.
