AVC announces auditions for first play in new theater

Open call auditions for Luigi Pirandello’s play “Six Characters in Search of an Author” will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11 at Antelope Valley College’s Black Box Theatre, 3041 W. Ave. K, Lancaster.

Rachel Goldberg will direct the college Theatre Arts Department production.

Actors do not need prepared monologues.  Auditions will consist of readings.  Please wear comfortable clothing.

The department has chosen for its first production in the new AVC Performing Arts Theatre Robert Brustein’s newly updated version of the 20th century Nobel Prize winning play.

The performance opens with a group of actors rehearsing their next show.  Six strangers claiming to be fictitious creations of a careless author -- who nonetheless insist that they are real -- interrupt them.  This classic work blurs the lines between reality and fantasy to explore how life is like theater and theater is like life.
