Pharmacy tech training program offered

People interested in becoming eligible to work as registered pharmacy technicians can enroll in a training program offered by Antelope Valley College’s Corporate and Community Services Office in cooperation with Boston Reed College beginning March 12.

Students will have the opportunity to become a registered Pharmacy Technician anywhere in California.

Technicians help pharmacists to package or mix prescriptions, maintain client records, assist with inventory control and purchasing, coordinate billing, and other tasks.

The seven-month program combines 182 hours of classroom instruction with a 120-hour externship at a local pharmacy for a comprehensive learning experience.

Classes will meet on Saturdays at Antelope Valley College’s Lancaster campus, 3041 W. Ave. K.

Students must be at least 18 years old and have completed high school or its equivalent. Also, students must pass an assessment, complete an orientation, have competency in basic computer operations, and have access to the Internet and printing capabilities.

Also, students are offered a math pre-screening assessment workshop to assist them. The workshop will be 4 p.m. March 11 and costs $20.

Boston Reed College, a private college based in Napa, provides the curriculum and instructor for the course.

Anyone interested in the program or the assessment workshop should call Corporate and Community Services for information, (661) 722-6300, ext. 6584.
