AVC to offer course for campus security officers

A security guard course specifically designed to meet state requirements for campus security officers at grade schools and community colleges will be offered through Antelope Valley College Corporate and Community Services beginning March 5.

The class meets 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on four consecutive Saturdays, March 5-26. There are additional fees for fingerprinting and state licensing required at the end of the course. There are no fingerprint requirements for students who possess a valid California guard card and a valid firearms permit.

The course was developed by Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) and the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.

Instructor Bruce Rowe will provide students with an understanding of the history and development of security responsibilities in an educational environment. Instruction will include hands-on training in officer safety and handcuffing techniques.
