Dancers “begin again” for April 15-16 performances

Dance Dimensions 2011, an annual showcase of dance by Antelope Valley College students and community members, will be held 8 p.m. April 15-16 at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center, 750 W. Lancaster Blvd., Lancaster.

This year’s performance with the theme of “Dance the End: Begin Again” will feature a range of dance styles including contemporary, ballet, modern, hip-hop, lyrical, tap and tuting.

For show director Cindy Littlefield, the concert’s theme is reflective of personnel changes and a fresh start after the departure of three of her student assistants – all pursuing dance at the university level – and one of her instructors, who is working on a graduate degree in dance.

The nature of experienced team members leaving and new ones coming in is reflective of the life cycle themes that are explored through the dance performances.

“The dances either have to do with beginnings or endings,” said Littlefield.

Aside from a talented cast of dancers, the concert will feature live music and a watercolor by artist Glen Knowles painted during one of the dances. Guest performers include dancers Desiree Dozier, Jesse Marks and Krisi Patrick and the hip-hop group “The Lost Minded.”

Tickets, priced at $18 general admission, $15 for seniors, and $10 for students, are on sale through the Lancaster Performing Arts Center box office, (661) 723-5950. Prices are $18 general admission, $15 for seniors, and $10 for students and AVC staff.
