Student performers featured in concerts, May 11-12

Antelope Valley College music students will be featured in solo and group performances May 11-12 in the campus Performing Arts Theatre, 3041 W. Ave. K, Lancaster.

A variety of classical musical styles will be featured 7 p.m. Friday, May 11 when students present solos for voice, violin, guitar, electric bass, piano, clarinet, saxophone and percussion during a recital.

The next evening at 7:30, the AVC concert bands will perform their final program of the season with a concert featuring the music of Leonard Bernstein and Los Angeles area composer, Dr. Deon Nielsen Price.

Selections for the May 12 performance include “Overture to Candide,” highlights from “West Side Story,” America themes, and “Clariphonia,” a recent work for clarinet solo with band accompaniment that will feature band director Dr. Berkeley A. Price on four, different sized clarinets.

Tickets for each concert are $5 for students/seniors and AVC employees, and $10 for others. Tickets will be available at the Performing Arts Theatre box office two hours prior to each concert. Young children under 6 are discouraged.
