Building opens for start of fall semester

August 20, 2012

Construction workers and AVC employees labored through the weekend and into the early morning today to prepare the Health and Sciences Building for the start of fall semester classes. Workers tackled numerous “punch list” items and cleaned labs in the $52 million building. At 105,085 square feet, the structure is the largest on campus.

Although it is expected to take another two weeks to finish some portions of the building -- such as an exterior walkway at the east end of the building that connects the north and south wings of the second floor – the facility is ready for occupancy, according to Doug Jensen, director of facilities services.

A Subway sandwich shop on the ground floor opened today, as well.

More than 13,000 students are expected to be at AVC this week for the start of the fall semester.
