Tribute to Motown Sept. 8 at Antelope Valley College

The music of The Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson will be among the featured selections of “A Tribute to Motown” concert 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Antelope Valley College Performing Arts Theatre, 3041 W. Ave. K, Lancaster.

Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for seniors, military, students and college staff. Tickets can be purchased at the AVC Marauder Bookstore, which is open 7:45 a.m.-7:15 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and 7:45 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday. Any remaining tickets will be available at the theater 6 p.m. the day of the performance.

Proceeds from the concert -- performed by commercial music faculty and special guests – will benefit the college’s Commercial Music Department.

The Motown’s Detroit studios became known as “Hitsville U.S.A.” as Motown artists produced more than 100 top 10 hits from 1960 to 1971. It was the greatest hit machine in music, according to music instructor Michael McCully.

Motown artists included Diana Ross and The Supremes, The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Funk Brothers and Marvin Gaye.
