Handel's Messiah to be performed at Antelope Valley College

Posted: December 11, 2012

Come enjoy uplifting sounds of the holiday season, as the Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra and Master Chorale presents the popular masterwork, Handel’s Messiah.  The AVSOMC, joined by the AV College Concert Choir, will present this choral masterpiece Saturday, December 15 at 7 p.m., and again Sunday, December 16 at 4 p.m., at the Antelope Valley College Performing Arts Theatre.

Messiah was composed by George Frideric Handel in 1741, and was completed in just 24 days. It has been referred to as "a commentary on [Jesus Christ's] Nativity, Passion, Resurrection and Ascension", beginning with God's promises as spoken by the prophets and ending with Christ's glorification in heaven. The text of the work is derived largely from prophetic passages of the Old and New Testaments, including the books of Isaiah, Psalms and Revelation.

The Antelope Valley College Performing Arts Theatre  is located at 3041 W. Ave. K in Lancaster. There is an informational curtain-raiser lecture one hour prior to each performance.  General admission is $20, senior, military and AVC staff admission is $18, and students are $10. The PAT box office is open Fridays and Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and two hours prior to each performance. Tickets are also available by phone, (661) 722-6580, or online at tickets.avc.edu .
