Auditions to be held Feb. 11-12 for AVC spring productions

Open auditions for all of Antelope Valley College’s Theatre Arts Department spring productions will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 11 and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 12 in the campus Performing Arts Theatre, 3041 W. Ave. K, Lancaster. Callbacks will be 2-6 p.m. Feb. 12.

Everyone is welcome to audition for one or more of the five plays being cast.  Productions include “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” directed by Stephan Wolfert, which will tour Antelope Valley area elementary schools throughout the spring and play for one weekend in the Performing Arts Theatre.

In addition, four student written original one act plays will be cast during the open auditions, which will be presented in the AVC Black Box Theatre during the Festival of One Act Plays May 10-13. The one–acts are: “By the Way” by Joan Enguita; “Imagine” by Juan Juarez; “The Only Thing We Have to Fear” by Melissa Marie Martin; and “The Miller’s Daughter” by Kat Wilson.

Auditioners will have an opportunity to select which play (or plays) they are interested in at the time of auditions. Scripts will be available in the AVC Library reserve section beginning Feb. 6 for those who may wish to read them before auditions. No prepared audition piece is required, although being able to tell a good, clean joke will be an asset.

Those auditioning should come dressed in comfortable clothing and wear athletic or simple dance shoes, and be prepared to perform any specialty "trick" (roller skates, scooter, unicycle, etc.) they might know. Sides (portions of the script) will be provided at the auditions. Some of the one-act plays have adult themes and language; the children’s play is G-rated.

Those who are cast will be expected to enroll in Rehearsal and Performance, THA 120, and/or Theatre Production, THA 121. Please enter the theater through the main (east) doors on the east side of the building.  For more information call Jonet Leighton, (661) 722-6300, ext. 6393.
