Young people encouraged to explore health careers

A Health Careers Information Fair for sixth through 12th grade students and their parents will be held 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Van Dam Pavilion, Antelope Valley Fairgrounds, 2551 W. Ave. H, Lancaster.

"This event is an outstanding opportunity for students and parents to speak with health care professionals in a variety of roles,” said Dr. Karen Cowell, dean of the Health Sciences Division at Antelope Valley College. “Students will benefit from the interaction with the speakers in a small group setting. They will be able to ask questions about educational qualifications, job responsibilities and career pathways of prominent health care professionals in our community."

Presentations will be given by a variety of health care professionals including physicians, nurses, paramedics, X-ray technicians, pharmacists and others. Students will be able to learn about planning for college and financial aid, too.

The event is sponsored by Antelope Valley College in collaboration with Palmdale High School Health Careers Academy and the Antelope Valley Union High School District. It is funded by the Health Careers Training Program of the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development.
