AVC graduates 24 to serve as wildland firefighters

In the midst of wildfire season, Antelope Valley College has just graduated 24 men from its Wildland Firefighter Academy.

The students completed a rigorous summer training program in various aspects of wildland firefighting to earn certification from the National Wildfire Coordinating Group.  The training prepares the students for entry-level temporary positions as wildland firefighters.

During an afternoon ceremony at the Lancaster campus, certificates were presented to:

Leonardo Cano, Ubaldo Carreno, Gregory Diaz, Sean Dillon, Manolito Gutierrez, Jerrod Hardcastle, Anthony Kelker, Daniel Ko, Travis Lang, Parker Lewallen, Trevor McFarlane, Robert Monarrez, Javier Ortiz, Ruben Perales, William Robertson, Jeffrey Rodriguez, Kyle Sandahl, Lance Schiller, Andrew Spackman, Grant Sparks, Alex Tijerino, David Trujillo, Jereme Ventura and Christopher White.

The students are the ninth class to graduate from the academy.
