AVC hosts scholarship workshops for students

Posted: November 8, 2012

Workshops have been scheduled for Nov. 12-16 to assist students in filling out applications for Antelope Valley College Foundation Scholarships.

These workshops will help students understand what the Antelope Valley College scholarship screening committee will be looking for and, hopefully, improve their chances for receiving a scholarship from the AVC Foundation.

The foundation will be giving out more than 215 scholarships on behalf of donors this season. All students are encouraged to apply. The required grade point average for many scholarships is only 2.0.  Family financial status is not a factor for most scholarships.

Workshops are available to high school seniors who will be attending AVC in the fall as well as those continuing at AVC or transferring to a four-year university in the fall.

The dates and times for the 90-minute workshops on the Lancaster campus, 3041 W. Ave. K, are:

  • Nov. 12, 4 p.m., BE 246
  • Nov. 13, 12:30 p.m., LS1-124
  • Nov. 14, 9:30 a.m., APL 102
  • Nov. 15, 9 a.m., APL 101
  • Nov. 16, 2 p.m., BE 246

One workshop will be held at the Palmdale Center, 1529 E. Palmdale Blvd., at 10 a.m. Nov. 16 in SV-3C.

The workshops will be presented by Sandi Rogers, AVC Foundation scholarship technician, along with Diane Flores-Kagen, AVC Writing Center learning specialist.

Students can reserve a seat by contacting Rogers at (661) 722-6300, ext. 6860, or e-mail, srogers2@avc.edu.  Parents are invited to accompany their student, if desired, and if space is available. Attendance at each workshop is limited to 30 students.

The deadline for submitting scholarship applications to the AVC Financial Aid Office is 4:30 p.m., January 18, 2013.
