Trustees appoint retired faculty member as interim CEO

Patricia Marquez

Antelope Valley College governing board members emerged from closed session Monday morning and voted unanimously to have Patricia A. Marquez serve as interim superintendent/president.

The appointment is due to take effect Friday -- pending contract approval at another special board meeting later this week -- and continue through June 30. Sharon Lowry, vice president of academic affairs, had been serving as acting superintendent/president following the hospitalization of Dr. Jackie L. Fisher Sr. on April 7.

Marquez, who retired in 2012 as a professor, counselor and matriculation specialist, served as interim president for AVC before in 2000-01 after the departure of Dr. Linda Spink. Marquez first came to work at AVC in 1976 as a psychology instructor.
