AVC announces auditions for "The Diviners"

Open auditions for the Antelope Valley College Theatre Arts Department’s fall production of Jim Leonard’s “The Diviners” will be held 6-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 in the Performing Arts Theatre, 3041 W. Ave. K, Lancaster.

Those auditioning only need to come to one of these sessions.  A variety of roles are available for men and women.  The AVC Theatre Arts Department encourages actors of any age, ethnicity, or physical ability to attend.  Previous theater experience is not mandatory for any role.

Containing themes of friendship, hope, fear, faith, comedy and tragedy, “The Diviners” is the story of a disturbed young man and his friendship with a disenchanted preacher in southern Indiana in the early 1930s.  The large cast of colorful country folk helped win this marvelously theatrical play the American College Theatre Festival Award.

No preparation is necessary, although actors may want to first read the play before auditioning.  Copies of the play are on reserve at the AVC Library, as well as a short monologue from the play which actors may prepare and use at the auditions.  All auditioners should come prepared to move in comfortable clothing.
