Open auditions slated for all AVC spring productions

Open auditions for all of the spring semester productions by Antelope Valley College’s Theatre Arts Department will be held 6-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 in the campus Performing Arts Theatre, Room 114 (Studio Theatre), 3041 W. Ave. K, Lancaster.

Community members are welcome to audition for one or more of the six plays being cast.

Productions include "The Ugly Duckling," directed by Stephan Wolfert, which will tour Antelope Valley area elementary schools throughout the spring and play for one weekend in the Performing Arts Theatre.

In addition, five student-written original one act plays will be cast during the auditions. The one acts will be presented in the AVC Black Box Theatre during the Festival of One Act Plays April 18-21. Those auditioning will have an opportunity to select which play (or plays) they are interested in specifically at the time of auditions.

No prepared audition piece is required, although being able to tell a good, clean joke will be an asset.  Those auditioning should come dressed in comfortable clothing and wear athletic or simple dance shoes, and be prepared to perform any specialty "trick" (roller skates, scooter, unicycle, etc.) they might know.

Scripts will be available in the AVC Library reserve section starting Feb. 4 for those who may wish to read them.  Sides (portions of the script) will be provided at the auditions.

Those who are cast will be expected to enroll in THA 120, “Rehearsal and Performance” and/or THA 121, “Theatre Production.”
