AVC Zoology Professor to Teach UCLA Extension Course

Posted: April 2, 2014

Dr. Callyn Yorke, Antelope Valley College professor of Zoology, will begin teaching a Saturday class this weekend called Birds of Southern California, through the UCLA Extension program.

Once part of the AVC Biology curriculum, the class is now listed as a new course in the UCLA Extension spring catalog as an 8-week course (4 Saturday lectures at UCLA and 4 Saturday field trips in Los Angeles County, including the Antelope Valley).

Historically, UCLA Extension offered a similar Birds of Southern California class, taught by Harbor College’s Arnold Small for many years, until his death in 2000. Dr. Yorke has now brought the course back to the UCLA Extension curriculum.

Enrollment information for the class is located at:  http://avconline.avc.edu/cyorke/biol165.html

Courses offered in the AVC Biology program are fully articulated with UCLA. Each year, some of AVC’s best biology students transfer to the UCLA Biology program. The addition of Dr. Yorke as an adjunct faculty member at UCLA is a testament to the caliber of the faculty members teaching at AVC. For more information, please contact Dr. Yorke at 661-722-6300, ext. 6437 or cyorke@avc.edu.
