Auditions Announced for One-Acts Festival

The Antelope Valley College Theatre Arts Department announces open auditions for plays for the 18th annual Original One-Act Festival on Friday, February 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, February 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the AVC Black Box Theatre, FA2 130, 3041 West Avenue K, Lancaster, CA 93536. The theatre is located near Entrance C on Avenue K at 31st Street West.

Everyone is welcome to audition for one or more of the four plays being cast.  The plays to be submitted at this year’s festival include: “Fields Far Away: Signs or Delusions” by Jeff, Jonathan and Tyler Timpe, “Intermezzos with Cannibals” by Danae Davis, “Myself, Alone” by Crystal Schumacher and “Only Dead Fish Swim With the Stream” by Hayley Tollers. Auditioners will have an opportunity to select which play (or plays) they are interested in specifically at the time of auditions.

A memorized monologue is not required to audition, but auditioners will be asked to tell a favorite joke or to sing a favorite song (“Fields Far Away: Signs or Delusions” is a musical). Those auditioning should come dressed in comfortable clothing and wear athletic or simple dance shoes, and be prepared to perform any specialty "trick" (roller skates, scooter, unicycle, etc.) they might know.  Scripts will be available in the AVC Library Reserve section starting January 27 for those who may wish to read them.  Sides (portions of the script) will be provided at the auditions.

Auditions are open to all members of the community. The Theatre Arts Department encourages actors of all physical abilities and of any ethnicity to audition. Those who are cast will be expected to enroll in THA 120A Rehearsal and Performance and/or THA 121 Theatre Production.
