AVC Announces Finalists for the Vice President of Academic Affairs Position

Following a national search, Antelope Valley College announced today that three finalists have been selected for the position of Vice President, Academic Affairs.

Each finalist will spend a full day on the Lancaster campus during the week of May 19-23.  After spending a day meeting various constituent groups of the college, each finalist will address an open forum in the Board Room (SSV 151) at 1:30 p.m., to which the public is invited.

The three finalists, and the dates each candidate will visit the campus are:

TUESDAY, May 20:  Dr. Louis (Tom) O’Neil
Dr. O’Neil is currently serving as Dean of Instruction at Antelope Valley College where he has been assigned since 2007.  He has a career in higher education spanning nearly forty years including faculty and administrative positions.  Dr. O’Neil earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of North Dakota, and his master’s and doctoral degrees at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada.

WEDNESDAY, May 21: Dr. Bonnie Suderman
Dr. Suderman is currently serving as Dean of Instruction at Bakersfield College where she has been assigned since 2007.  She assumed the Dean’s position after serving as instructional faculty at the college beginning in 1995.  Dr. Suderman earned a bachelor’s degree from Biola University, her master’s degree from California State University, Bakersfield, and her doctoral degree from University of the Pacific.

THURSDAY, May 22:  Mr. Omar Torres
Mr. Torres is currently serving as Dean of Instruction at College of the Canyons where he has been assigned since 2010.  He assumed the Dean’s position after serving as instructional faculty at Moorpark College beginning in 2004.  Mr. Torres earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and his master’s degree from University of California, Los Angeles.
