HVAC Awards
Four Antelope Valley College students enrolled in the air conditioning/refrigeration program each won a $500 scholarship presented by the Southern California Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
Eliseo Franco, Hoyt Harris, Jason Nelson and Robert Newell were recognized for their achievement recently when Clay Lampman, an engineer and representative of the chapter, visited AVC.
The four were the only AVC students to apply for the scholarships from the professional organization, according to instructor Joe Owens. The organization boasts a membership of 50,000.
Many of ASHRAE’s other scholarship recipients were from four-year universities.
AVC’s program offers students career training in its state-of-the-art TE 7 building, which opened in 2003.
