Enrollment tops 14,000
AVC's student headcount has topped 14,000 for the first time in the college's 78-year history.
Fall semester enrollment on Thursday reached 14,009, representing an increase of 8.56 percent in headcount over the same time last year. If past enrollment periods are an indicator, the headcount should continue to inch upward through first census, which is Sept. 4.
Full-time equivalent student (FTES) figures, which provide a basis for state funding, were not available for Thursday, but the prior day figures showed an increase of 6.44 percent in FTES over fall 2006 with 4,797, including 210 FTES at Palmdale.
"This is two years in a row we've exceeded our growth," said President Dr. Jackie L. Fisher Sr. He credited enrollment management, contributions of the faculty and staff, scheduliing, marketing, new employees and new programs for contributing to the increase in students.
"It's a tribute to the college that people are coming to us. We're not
their second choice," he said.
