CONSTRUCTION
PROJECTS UPDATE
Construction Projects in
the Antelope Valley Community College District
With
overwhelming voter support for a $139 million bond issue
(Measure R) in November 2004, AVC has embarked on its most
ambitious construction plan since the Lancaster campus opened
in 1961.
The tremendous
population growth within the college’s service area,
which includes 1,945 square miles of northern Los Angeles
and southwestern Kern counties, requires the classrooms,
labs and other facilities to meet the demand for quality,
low-cost higher education opportunities.
The existing
campus was built for a few thousand students. It now has
a student population of more than 12,000 with that number
expected to climb to more than 20,000 over the next decade.

and Campus Development, Doug
