Campus Organizations: Academic Senate

The purpose of the Senate shall be to represent the faculty in the formation of policy on academic and professional matters. The Senate shall represent the faculty position on these matters and shall promote communication and mutual understanding within the framework of the college. This may include, but is not limited to policies and practices concerning:

Rely Primarily Areas
1. Curriculum, including establishing prerequisites and policy courses within disciplines
2. Degree and certificate requirements
3. Grading policies
4. Educational program development
5. Standards or policies regarding student preparation and success
6. Policies for faculty professional development activities

Mutual Agreement Areas
1. District and college governance structures as related to faculty roles
2. Faculty roles and involvement in accreditation
3. Processes, including self-study and annual reports
4. Processes for institutional planning and budget development
5. Other academic and professional matters as are mutually agreed upon between the governing board and the academic senate. (Title 5 §53200)
