Assessments: Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®)

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) instrument is the most widely used personality inventory in history. Knowing your personality type, as measured through the MBTI®, can help you with career planning at every stage.

People often find difficulty defining what kind of work they want to do or why a given field makes them comfortable or uncomfortable. Learning about your attitudes and mental functions with the MBTI® instrument can help you pinpoint occupational fields that favor your personality style and values by recognizing:

  • Where you focus your attention and get your energy
  • The way you take in information
  • The way you make decisions
  • How you deal with the outer world

The MBTI® does this by measuring your preferences on four dimensions:

The various combinations of these preferences result in sixteen MBTI® types. Discovering your type may help you choose a career path that best suits you.

The MBTI® assessment can be used alone or in combination with the Strong Interest Inventory® assessment to help heighten self-awareness and a deeper understanding of individual strengths and blind spots and to focus career exploration.

MBTI® results should be reviewed with a certified practitioner, therefore, if you are interested in taking this assessment please contact Counseling for more information.
