Alternative Media and Text Production
DSS has an Access Technology/Alternative Media Specialist, who has the ability to convert standard print into large print, Braille, or into electronic text. Material must be course related and can include textbooks and class handouts. Students requesting materials in alternative formats must own a physical copy of the textbook or other course materials. A proof of purchase receipt is required when a textbook is to be dismantaled and converted into a alternative format.
The Access Technology/Alternative Media Specialist also can close caption video tapes for deaf or hard-of-hearing students and staff. This process can take over two weeks to accomplish, so lead time on a request is essential.
If students need more information regarding alternative text production, or want to request course material to be converted into an alternative format, please contact the DSS Office in room SSV 108, or call (661) 722-6300 ext. 6360.
