The Honors Option is intended to provide honors students with an opportunity to gain honors credit in a traditional non-honors course with an approved instructor. Instructors are advised to follow the criteria expected in honors courses when assisting students in designing an Honors Option. In order to earn honors credit, students must achieve several of the following objectives with their projects:
√√ provide content about the history or background of the field being studied
√√ show an awareness of some of the field’s major theories or current trends
√√ practice an application, field experience, or case study
√√ utilize research methods including proper documentation for that discipline
√√ demonstrate critical thinking and/or meta-cognitive abilities
(an example of demonstrating meta-cognitive ability is to keep a reflective journal)
Projects may be student- or faculty-inspired. Please describe the project in detail below or attach a detailed description to this form.

Special note to faculty: The work done to gain honors credit for a course must not figure into the grade for the course. Do not agree to provide an honors option for a student without having the project approved by the honors coordinator. If you have never done an honors option, please contact the honors coordinator by email or phone before signing this form. Upon approval of this contract and completion of the student project, the instructor will be provided with the Honors Option Request Form (to be signed and returned on or before grades are submitted for the course).
This form should be submitted to the Honors Coordinator by the end of the 4th week of the semester,
or, during Intersession or Summer, by the end of the 2nd week.
Exceptions may be made with permission of the Honors Coordinator.
