Students are limited to a maximum of three hours of tutoring each week. They are limited to two hours in one subject and an additional hour in a second subject. The three-hour limit does not include services that are provided in other programs in the Learning Center.
An ASO or EOPS card is required to obtain an appointment. It is advisable to verify tutor availability for a subject before you purchase a card.
All the tutors have been recommended by college instructors and have been fully trained.
Tutors can help you improve your study skills and understand concepts. They can give you tips on time management, test preparation and how to use your learning style effectively.
Tutors are not able to help you correct your homework or paper. They can give you hints about possible problems but not correct them for you. They are not able to tell you what they think your grade will be or tell you what will be on the tests. The tutors are familiar with the specific material but not with each instructor. They are only able to help you with the material in the text or notes.
The following is a list of courses that the General Tutoring program currently has tutors for. Actual availability of appointments depends on student availability and individual tutor schedules. Please note that this list may change without notice.
The General Tutoring program is always on lookout for new tutors. If you have successfully completed a course that you would like to tutor, please fill out an application and return it to Raquel Trejo at the General Tutoring desk in the Learning Center or call 661.722.6300, extension 6233 for more information.
