The Reference Collection is located on the first floor of the Library. It includes materials such as general and specialized subject encyclopedias, handbooks, almanacs, indexes, dictionaries and atlases.

The Reference Desk is also on the first floor and is staffed during hours of operation by faculty librarians.

AVC librarians have a Bachelor's degree (can be in any discipline) and a Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science degree in the discipline of Library and Information Science. Some reference librarians have a second Master's or additional coursework in a another discipline as well. Librarians are members of the AVC Faculty and may hold academic rank (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor).

Phone reference service is available on a limited basis. Students present in the library take precedence over phone calls. Reference librarians may be reached by phone at: 722-6300 x6276.
