AVC Library Book Catalog Tutorial 

Instructions

This tutorial is accompanied by a short quiz. 

To take the quiz:

• Click on the Take Quiz link at the end of the tutorial. 
• Please make sure to fill out the top portion of the quiz form completely. 
• When you have finished the quiz, click on the submit button.  
• After you have clicked on the submit button, a confirmation page will appear with your score for this quiz.  You will also receive an e-mail confirmation.  Keep this e-mail and show it to your instructor as proof that you took the tutorial.

• The Book Catalog is a Web based electronic catalog that provides access to books and other materials held in the Antelope Valley College Library.
  

• The catalog is composed of thousands of electronic records, each representing a title (book, pamphlet, film, etc.) owned by the AVC Library or the Instructional Media Center..
  

• Each record is divided into a number of fields including: Title, Author, Call Number, Imprint, Description, Subjects, Notes and ISBN.
  

• To find a book or other library holding, you may search the catalog by keyword, author, title, subject, series, call number and ISBN/ISSN.  
  

• This catalog uses a Boolean search program, which requires the use of certain Boolean operators.  For more information on Boolean searching techniques, see  Lesson 2: Boolean Searching in this Tutorial.
