Student Development: Creating a Club

Additional Steps

Forming and Activating a Club

The procedures for forming a new club or activating a continuing club are as follows:

  • Check the current club list to see if a club exists that reflects your interest. You may also create your own if you did not find the club of your choice. Create a name and a purpose for your club.
  • Go to the Student Development and College Activities Office (SSV 180) to pick up a Club Activation Packet.
  • For assistance in locating a faculty advisor or writing your club constitution, contact the Student Development and College Activities Office (SSV 180) at 661.722.6300, extension 6354.
  • Bring the completed packet to an ICC meeting (click here for dates) for approval.

Any further questions regarding clubs can be directed to the Student Development and College Activities Office (SSV 180) by walking in or calling 661.722.6300, extension 6354.

Once the club has been approved

  • Fill out a Facilities Request Form to reserve a room for your club to meet. The form can be obtained in the Student Development and College Activities Office (SSV 180) or download it.
  • Once you have completed the form, bring it an ICC meeting for approval.  Once your meeting has been approved, a staff member of the Student Development and College Activities Office will verify room availability and let you know by phone or email.
  • One member of the club (ideally an officer) must attend the weekly Inter-Club Council meetings in order for the club to remain active. All on-campus club activities must be approved by the ICC with three (3) weeks advance notice. These meetings will also provide a link between the clubs and the Associated Student Organization as well as other valuable resources.

Any further questions regarding clubs can be directed to the Student Development Office (SSV 180) by walking in or calling 661.722.6300, extension 6354.

You can also update your new webpage as needed with news, events and other items relevant to your club.
  • Flyers Around Campus
You may create flyers to promote your club. Each club is allotated 200 copies per month, of which 50 can be in color..  All flyers must be signed by the club advisor and be approved by the Student Development and College Activities Office (SSV 180).  Flyers will be posted near the Marauder Bookstore and Cafeteria on designated boards. All flyers remain posted for one month from the stamped date.

Club Events

  • Your club can have many types of activites, events and fundraisers on and off campus. Activities can include social events, educational events and fundraising events. Here is an example of activities that current clubs have put together:
  • Weekly meetings

    Carwash Fundraisers

    Book drives

Movie nights in the Student Lounge

    Trips to museums

    Yard Sales

    Fundraisers at restaurants

  • Fill out a Facilities Request form and present your club event(s) at a ICC meeting for approval.
  • If you are planning an off campus event such as a fundraiser at a restaurant or a carwash, you do not need to fill out a Facilities Request Form but your event must be approved by ICC prior to the event.  An advisor must be present at all events.
  • Several times a semester, the Student Development and College Activities Office puts events together on campus where clubs may participate. These are excellent opportunities to recruit new members, fundraise and have a good time. Visit ICC meetings to learn about upcoming events that your club can participate in
  • Your club events and activities will be posted on the College Activities Calendar.

Any further questions regarding clubs can be directed to the Student Development and College Activities Office (SSV 180) by walking in or calling 661.722.6300, extension 6354.
