The student trustee
offers a student's perspective and advice to the Board of
Trustees at monthly and special Board meetings. The
student trustee is educated on upcoming programs, policies
and expenses that will be presented to the Board for approval. Using knowledge collected from the college's history, administrators,
faculty, staff but most importantly the students, she/he
will or will not approve of the communications presented
for approval.
When are Board
Meetings and why should a student care?
The Board of Trustees
meets on the secondt Monday of the month at 6:30 and occasionally
for special sessions in the Board Room (SSV 151). Some of the most important programs, dates and expenses
are approved by the Board of Trustees.
Who is the Student
Trustee?
Michelle Ellis is the new Student Trustee for 2007-2008. She can be contacted at (661)722-6300 ext. 6354 or emailed at student_trustee@avc.edu.
How is the Student
Trustee elected?
In
April, those who wish to run must fill out a letter of intent
at the Office of Student Development and College Activities
(SSV 180). The letter of intent is mandatory--there
are no write-in candidates. In April, start looking
for flyers that advertise the dates of the election of the
Student Trustee and Associated Student Body Officers because
they vary from year to year. After
the student is elected sometime in April, she/he will be sworn
in and seated with the Board at their June meeting. The Student Trustee will then serve for a term of one year.
