Gigantomachy explores how artists conjure fantastic characters and surreal interactions to echo the emotional experiences that punctuate daily, domestic existence.  These works by Jamie Combs, Dara Engler, Tom Miller, and Kate Savage playfully engage the way in which we attempt to conceive our own character arcs and narrative progression through the grander storylines of our shared cultures.

The title Gigantomachy derives from the Ancient Greek depiction of mythological battles pitting gods and giants.  Symbolizing the battle between order and chaos, this theme refers to how these contemporary artists strike a delicate balance between play and hysteria, calm and discomfort, secluded safety and the abyss.  The characters manufactured by Jamie Combs, Dara Engler, Tom Miller, and Kate Savage often lean on recognizable literary genres and historical types, ranging from Pinocchio to Pirates.  The magnitude of this allusion is combined with piercing moments of honesty and vulnerability, granting these visual ‘giants’ distinctly human weaknesses.
