Corporate & Community Services: Recognition of Cardiac and Respiratory Emergencies
This course is designed for individuals working in the health care field. Instruction during this course will cover emphasis on basic anatomy and physiology of the heart, recognition of signs and symptoms of myocardial infarction, airway obstruction, sudden death and the institution of basic life-support measures. This course is based on the American Heart Association. Instructors: Elizabeth Sundberg, Marianne Stewart, and Yesenia Cota.
Enrollment for each section of this class is limited to 16 students.

About the Instructors
Professor Elizabeth Sundberg has taught in the Associate Degree Nursing program at Antelope Valley College since 1978. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and master’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Marianne Stewart started her nursing career as a critical care nurse. She has served as an associate professor of nursing at Antelope Valley College since 1989, helping prepare men and women to become registered nurses. She earned an associate degree from Riverside City College, a bachelor’s degree from California State University, San Bernardino and a master’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles.
